We could not be more excited about this 100% sustainable denim! With fibres sourced entirely from garment industry waste, this upcycled fabric has been skillfully rewoven into a beautiful, durable denim. Featuring a classic diagonal twill, up close this denim is woven in thin, alternating lines of light blue and white. From further away, the dark blue specks interwoven in the fabric create the sense of a deep, soft blue mélange. This denim has so much character! Midweight with a crisp drape, it is perfect for making sturdy jeans, jackets, workwear, bags, trousers, structured dresses and jumpsuits. It also coordinates well with other denims from this collection; we suggest experimenting with colour blocking using different tones for a modern take on workwear and jean making.

100% Upcycled, Recycled Natural fibres

This third generation, family owned mill is reimagining the way denim is produced, using a circular economy model to maximize a material"s useful life, repurposing it into something new instead of sending it to a landfill. This mill turns post-industrial waste from local garment factories back into fibre, then upcycles the fibre into unique, fully biodegradable denim and twill. The entire process is chemical-free, dye-free, and synthetic fibre-free, while minimizing water and energy consumption. Revolutionary!

Care Instructions

Wash

Always pretreat fabric before sewing to remove chemical sizing from the manufacturing process. Pre-washing also gives you a better sense of the true drape and handfeel of a fabric. We recommend washing and drying fabric in the same way you intend to wash your finished garment. Be sure to separate brights and colours, as some dyes and prints may run the first few times you wash them. You can add half a cup to one cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle to help set the colours and minimize bleeding. It’s important to wash and dry denim to remove any potential shrinkage down the road.

Fabric Tips

For most applications, light to midweight denim can be cut on the fold. We recommend cutting heavyweight denims on a single layer. Use a fresh 90/14 needle for light to midweight denim and a 100/16 needle for heavyweight denim.

Beautiful denim! Waiting for the courage to cut out the jeans I hope to make with it.

Gorgeous!

This fabric is so lovely- the overall grey tone is a beautiful soft colour but the “piece de resistance” is all of the coloured threads lightly speckled throughout. There are tiny peeks of yellow, pink, dark and light blue, etc. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like confetti cake! The tiny speckles make this fabric match almost anything you want to pair it with.

This fabric is definitely thicker and stiffer than your average worn denim. It will be interesting to see what happens after multiple washings - it may loosen up with some wash and wear. It’s perfect for shorts, pants, or dresses that need to hold their shape.

Love it!

Very comfortable and easy to work with

I used this for a pair of Morgan jeans and they came out beautiful and comfortable to wear all day while chasing my toddler. I was nervous about wearing my first pair of non-stretch jeans, but this is sturdy without feeling rough. The material was easy to work with and my machine had no issues with it.

Fantastic Fabric

This is a fantastic piece of nearly impossible to
find recycled denim. Heavy and perfect for a pair of Morgan Jeans that will last for years!
Wonderful, quick service from this top-notch company!

It's rare to find 100% sustainable denim, and this fabric is excellent quality. Made a pair of Persephone Pants from this. It's a bit on the heavier side so it will take some time to break in (will also last awhile for that same quality), and high waisted denim trousers work great for this kind of weight.
