Ethically Handspun & Handwoven In India

Masterfully produced by skilled artisans on traditional handlooms in India, this handcrafted textile was made using natural fibres and finished using azo-free dyes. For more than 30 years, our supplier has been sourcing high-quality handspun cotton yarn called Khadi, which is then traditionally weaved by artisans in a family-oriented homeworking environment. With its ethical sourcing and fair supply chain management, our supplier has had a positive impact on the traditional weaving community and the environment, through job creation, artisan empowerment, water conservation and a reduced carbon footprint.

Airy, crisp, and a joy to wear, khadi weaves were popularized in their native India as a way for people to achieve self-sufficiency under British rule. To this day, this artisanal fabric is made all over India, and we're proud to be able to offer it here!
With a fine, hand-woven finish, this khadi cotton is crisp, easy-to-sew, and pleasantly rustic to the touch. As it is hand-spun, there are subtle variations in the surface. Its light and breezy feel mean it'd make a lovely tunic, a sharp summer button-down, or even a pair of summer pyjamas. Semi-opaque, it may require a lining for certain projects.

Always pretreat fabric before sewing to remove chemical sizing from the manufacturing process. Pre-washing also gives you a better sense of the true drape and handfeel of a fabric. We recommend washing and drying fabric in the same way you intend to wash your finished garment. Be sure to separate brights and colours, as some dyes and prints may run the first few times you wash them.

It’s important to wash and dry cotton to remove any potential shrinkage down the road. Machine wash in warm water and tumble dry on medium or hot. More delicate cottons like voile, double gauze or embroidered cottons should be washed by hand or on the delicate cycle. Use a hot iron when pressing.

Lightweight rust colored cotton

This fabric is as soft as it was described. It washed well. Will be making a buttoned up shirt really soon as I’m sure it will be great for this hot weather here in New Orleans. Glad I purchased it.

One of my favorite colors

Well, this color Spring Green is similar to a birthstone called the peridot, it is my birthstone for August
When I saw the picture I ordered right away.
I made a pattern from Sew House Seven, a top or a dress. a peasant type style. Not difficult but the color makes it.
I hope to place a picture of this top. Very nice fabric to work with, try a yard or two. I did add some lace not the frillly kind.
I also purchased a couple of yards of the rust color but can not decide what to make . This fabric is very soft and light weight.
It is the same as the spring green but just a little more soft.
I hope you have some thing to sew , hope you share with me .
Oh I have taken the sewing class for the Lingerie. Heather Lou is the instructor. She is very patient and has a great personality,
pay attention there is alot of work to making a bra but I like it and it fits. I am not very good with pdf and getting the pieces correctly
but it has worked and it does fit. Nice fabric for the bra and undies.
I have enjoyed spending my money on your pretty fabrics and I even learned how to make a bra and underwear. I would like anothe\
class on pdf .
Thank you,

Gorgeous fabric

This fabric is beautiful. Very lightweight. A tad sheer. For complete opacity, you'd probably want to line it. The hand woven nature of this fabric gives it subtle stripes and it's just GORGEOUS!

I purchased the rust and lavender. The fabrics are much lighter in weight than the daffodil and spring green. The lavender has several bands 1 1/2" wide, lighter in color than the main body of the fabric. The original intention was blouses but these two fabrics won't be suitable. I will have to find another use and ensure I am able to eliminate the color differences in the lavender.

I purchased the spring green and daffodil. Both washed beautifully and will make nice lightweight summer blouses.
