There is nothing worse than spending hours making a gorgeous garment using your precious fabric only to find it doesn't fit the way you want. For this reason, we always recommend making a muslin or toile first - this ensures you can identify any fit issues (and practice any tricky construction issues!) before cutting into your garment fabric. We've looked high and low to find an eco-friendly muslin fabric you can feel good about using, so we are delighted to offer this unbleached, certified organic cotton muslin. Midweight with moderate drape, it is ideal for all your toile-ing needs! It can also be used as an interlining when you need to add additional structure or body to your fabric.

Care Instructions

Wash

Always pretreat fabric before sewing to remove chemical sizing from the manufacturing process. Pre-washing also gives you a better sense of the true drape and handfeel of a fabric. We recommend washing and drying fabric in the same way you intend to wash your finished garment. Be sure to separate brights and colours, as some dyes and prints may run the first few times you wash them. You can add half a cup to one cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle to help set the colours and minimize bleeding. It’s important to wash and dry cotton to remove any potential shrinkage down the road.

Fabric Tips

You can use a hot iron when pressing cotton. You can use sharp point universal needles to sew your projects. We recommend starting your project with a brand new needle.
