Nothing says summer elegance quite as well as a dramatic caftan. Charlie is a fresh take on this warm weather staple.

All versions feature a deep V neckline, short dolman sleeves, inset center panel and roomy pockets. View A is modern and architectural with striking pleats beneath the bust. For a softer, more romantic dress, Views B & C feature a gently gathered bodice with an optional waist tie for a figure-skimming silhouette in two skirt lengths. You may also choose between a dramatically wide sleeve or one slightly higher cut for more coverage.

Sizes: 0-20 (print and PDF) and 14-32 (PDF)

Recommended fabric:

Light to medium weight wovens such as linen, chambray, tencel, linen, silk, chiffon, rayon challis, crepe de chine, batiste and voile.

great maternity option

I made this for my baby shower a few years ago and have worn it several times since. It looks great with and without a bump!

I followed directions to raise the waistline a few inches and added a few inches to the gathered fabric for more baby bump room. This was my first me-made garment I planned to wear for something special and it sewed up beautifully!

Destined or a co-lab in my sewing group

Not made yet as not everyone is ready. Hoping to get a few made for holidays. I’m using seersucker. Not sure how we’ll cope with the bit in the middle. I think it’s a very stylish pattern.

The pattern is drafted well, but I don’t like how the pdf pages are numbered. It is very confusing.

Tricky panel and instructions disappointing

Firstly, only about half of the pictures printed out which was frustrating, haven’t had any other trouble with my printer so an issue with the download? So that meant I needed laptop open as well as printed instructions, plus had to toggle between the actual instructions and various other blog posts for further instructions on the panel to make sense of it. I do quite like the dress, have made two now. But the panel is definitely too low, I needed to raise it an inch on the second dress, could go higher even. Also the short length looked pretty ridiculous on me (5’7), so second time around I made a midi length, halfway between the long and short, and that has worked well. I found the V neck difficult too. All in all, the pattern was a bit expensive for the hassles I had!

- Regarding the printing issue:
I'm sorry to hear that only half of the images printed. This is typically resolved by selecting 'Print as Image' in your print dialog settings, which ensures all elements render correctly. If you haven't already tried this, it should fix the issue for any future patterns you print.
- Regarding fitting and adjustments:
It sounds like you made some thoughtful modifications to get the fit and proportions just right for your body. We do have numerous blog posts with tips and tutorials to help with common adjustments—it sounds like you may have already found some of those resources, which is great!
- Regarding the V-neck:

Easy Yet Beautiful!

I am a beginner, and yet I wanted to sew my own dress for my cousin’s wedding. This pattern was perfect! I found a Sew-Along on YouTube, which helped immensely. I sized the pattern to my breast measurement. Now I’m getting started on my next Closet Core pattern!
