A Message from Heather: Important US Shipping Changes - We're here to help you through this

Heart made of fabrics at Core Fabrics

To all our valued American Customers,

I'm here to explain some of the significant tariff-related changes that will affect your orders with us, and to let you know how we're working to support you through this transition.

As you may have heard, significant changes to US import policies will take effect on August 29th. Previously, packages valued under $800 entering the US were exempt from tariffs under a rule known as the "de minimis" rule. That exemption is ending, which means literally every package entering the US, regardless of value, will be subject to tariffs.

These tariffs are calculated based on the country of origin for each product (not the country where it's shipped from), so every order from Core Fabrics will now include individual tariff charges for each product. The reality is that tariff rates vary significantly depending on both the country of origin and the specific type of fabric – cotton from one country may be tariffed differently than linen from the same place. It's complex, and frankly, it's been challenging to navigate.

(You can read more about how tariffs work and how duties are calculated here.)

I know this isn't welcome news, but we've developed some tools that will help.

Here's how we're supporting you:

We've worked incredibly hard to create a solution that removes surprises from your shopping experience. This week we've rolled out a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) system. Now, when you check out, you'll see a line item called "Duty" that calculates the customs and duties on each order.  This provides a clear idea of the total cost upfront – no mystery charges when your package arrives. When you check out, you'll pay the tariff fee along with your order, and your package will be shipped quickly via FedEx with no additional costs to worry about.

Please note that you'll also be paying these tariffs on products from US-based fabric stores; however, these costs will be reflected in higher product prices, as opposed to the separate fee you'll pay with us.

We're also working hard to build out special collections that will allow you to browse fabrics with lower and no tariff rates (which is the case for all fabrics milled in North America). We're currently testing our systems and populating these collections, so stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks about these money-saving options.

I want to be transparent with you. Our valued US customers represent 50% of our revenue, and this change has us feeling anxious about the future. But it also clarifies what's at stake. Your continued support doesn't just keep our doors open; it fuels our ability to innovate with sustainable textiles and maintain relationships with the world's finest mills. With so many beloved fabric retailers closing in recent years, those of us who remain play a vital role in keeping quality fabrics accessible to makers like you.

The community we have built is everything to us, and I believe we’re stronger when we support each other through challenges such as these. I am deeply grateful for the trust you place in us, and for what your support has allowed us to build over the last four years. Thank you for being part of the Core Fabrics family; we're committed to navigating this transition together and continuing to serve you with the same care and quality you've come to expect from us.

With gratitude and love,

Heather and the entire team at Core Fabrics 💙
