A good denim is hard to find . . . that’s why we were thrilled to find this Cone S-Gene denim deadstock, the last of its kind to be produced in the Cone Mills Greensboro, North Carolina plant before they moved all production overseas. This midweight denim uses a patented process that creates stronger stretch denim with excellent recovery by blending cotton and polyester fibres with lycra. As a result, it holds its shape and won't stretch out two sizes over the course of day. In a deep indigo shade with a classic diagonal twill weave, is ideal for stretch jeans, in addition to garments like pants, jackets and dresses where a touch of stretch is desired for comfort and mobility.

Deadstock Denim Made in the USA

In the fashion industry, deadstock refers to fabrics that are either surplus or left over from production, including high-quality designer textiles. By sourcing deadstock fabrics, we are giving them a new lease on life and keeping them out of landfills.

Care Instructions

Always pretreat fabric before sewing to remove chemical sizing from the manufacturing process. Pre-washing also gives you a better sense of the true drape and handfeel of a fabric. We recommend washing and drying fabric in the same way you intend to wash your finished garment. Be sure to separate brights and colours, as some dyes and prints may run the first few times you wash them. You can add half a cup to one cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle to help set the colours and minimize bleeding. It’s important to wash and dry denim to remove any potential shrinkage down the road.

Long-Term Care

Machine wash in warm water and tumble dry on medium. To preserve the intensity of dye and recovery in stretch denim, it’s best to wash your finished jeans in cool water and hang to dry. No need to wash denim after every wear.

Fabric Tips

For most applications, light to midweight denim can be cut on the fold. We recommend cutting heavyweight denims on a single layer. Use a fresh 90/14 needle for light to midweight denim and a 100/16 needle for heavyweight denim.

Maker Jacket

This fabric is AMAZING, finished my Makers Jacket 2 weeks ago, the fabric worked up nicely and has an amazing little bit of stretch- just right!!! Love my D rings, they are perfect for the jacket, the color, the size- when I did have a little issue with a mark within the fabric Core quickly expedited me a new piece so I could continue! Wonderful service!
