With a loose, body-skimming silhouette and a number of interchangeable features, the Kalle Shirt & Shirtdress is the ultimate in chic, easy dressing.

View A is cropped with a wide-faced hem, View B is a tunic length shirt inspired by classic men's oxfords, and View C is a stylish shirtdress with a high-low hem. All versions feature a subtly curved yoke, short dolman sleeves with arm cuffs, and a dramatically shaped hem.

Personalize your Kalle with a standard or band collar, an optional breast pocket, an inverted or box pleat, and button, popover or hidden placket.

Sizes: 0-20 (print and PDF) and 14-32 (PDF)

Recommended fabric

  • Make a fluid, drapey Kalle with soft fabrics like tencel, linen, rayon challis and silk crepe de chine. Crisper fabrics like poplin, chambray, voile, flannel and traditional shirtings will create a more structured silhouette.

    Terrible instructions not beginner friendly

The instructions are just not understandable at all. The notches are not clearly defined as notches. The images do not clearly reflect what the pieces should look like. The best help I had came from a YouTube channel completely unrelated to the company. I had to completely scrap the collar stand, nothing made that make any sense and it just wasn’t worth adding it. If you have little to intermediate skills and would rather follow the instructions as opposed to just winging it don’t waste your time. All I have gotten from this pattern is frustrated.

    Hi Nicole,
Thank you for your feedback on the Kalle pattern.
The Kalle is indeed designed as an intermediate level pattern, and some experience with collar construction before tackling this project can help. We've published several detailed blog posts with step-by-step photos to supplement the written instructions: https://blog.closetcorepatterns.com/category/our-patterns/kalle-shirt-shirtdress/
We find that taking time to read through all the instructions before starting and referring to our blog tutorials can really help with the more complex construction steps.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us.
    Best regards,

Easy to follow pattern directions and turned out looking not like a homemade item
