Fabrics Made in Canada: Meet The Core Knit Collection

Featured in this post

Say hello to the Core Knit collection—a lineup of soft, comfy, and oh-so-versatile knit fabrics made in Canada. Whether you're dreaming up everyday staples or snuggly loungewear, these locally made knits are here to bring your sewing plans to life.

Curious how it all comes together? Let’s take a peek behind the scenes—from yarn to finished fabric—and show you how these Canadian-made knits are crafted with care.

It All Starts With the Fibres

Every fabric in the Core Knit collection begins with certified organic or eco-conscious fibres whenever possible. We're talking about:

  • Organic Cotton
  • Bamboo Viscose
  • A Dash of Spandex (usually less than 10%)

The organic cotton is sourced from places like the U.S., Peru, Turkey, and India, and grown without harmful pesticides. It also uses less water and results in long, strong fibres that make for super soft, long-lasting fabric.

Bamboo (grown mostly in China) grows fast, needs very little water, and doesn’t require pesticides. The fibre is made using the viscose method, which makes it semi-synthetic, but it’s processed with care to be as eco-friendly as possible.

Knitting It All Together

Next up: knitting! This happens at a trusted facility in Ville Saint-Laurent, Quebec, where the magic really begins. The yarns are transformed into beautiful knits using precision machines that dial in the perfect stretch, softness, and structure for each fabric style.

Whether it’s jersey, rib, interlock, or fleece, every knit is made with close attention to detail—so you get a fabric that feels great, sews up beautifully, and lasts.

Some of the Core Knits are knitted in the tubular format. This technique not only simplifies the manufacturing process by eliminating the need to cut the fabric to length but also makes washing and drying at the finishing stage easier. The tubular format helps protect the fabric and ensures a smoother production process. We love tubular knits and encourage you to embrace the round format—it’s a versatile, practical choice that offers some fantastic benefits for both production and care!

Dyeing & Finishing Touches

Once the fabric is knitted, it travels to dyeing and finishing partners in Montreal, Berthierville, or Ontario, where it gets its final glow-up.

Dyeing brings rich colour to the fabric, while finishing ensures it’s ready for your sewing table. That means:

  • Cleaning and softening
  • Controlling shrinkage and width
  • Improving handfeel and drape
  • Locking in colour

Each step is handled by experienced pros, and the result is a lineup of knits that look as good as they feel.

Why Local Matters

Choosing local production means a shorter supply chain and greater transparency. From yarn sourcing to knitting and finishing, every step is carefully monitored to meet high standards—ethically, environmentally, and quality-wise. Plus, producing fabrics in Canada supports local manufacturing and cuts down on emissions from overseas shipping.
