Hey friends! ☀️

If you’ve been eyeing our Brise Knit Dress pattern (psst… it’s totally FREE to download on our blog!), we’ve got a fun little hack to help you get even more out of this comfy classic, just in time for warmer weather!

Brise comes with sweet short sleeves by default, but we thought it would be fun to show you how to turn it into a sleek sleeveless number with a clean, polished finish. The secret? A lined bodice! In our quick video tutorial, we’ll walk you through how to draft the front and back bodice lining pieces using your original pattern, and then show you how to assemble it using the magical burrito method for a clean neckline and armhole finish.

We made our sample in one of our go-to knits: a bamboo-cotton spandex jersey that’s made right here in Canada and stocked in a few colours in our shop. It has the perfect weight and drape for this kind of knit dress, and it feels dreamy to wear!

Here’s how the hack goes down:

  1. Draft your bodice lining pieces. Grab your Brise Dress pattern and use the front and back bodice to create lining pieces. We show you exactly how in the video tutorial below.

  2. Follow Steps 1 to 5 of the original Brise instructions. That means prepping your main front and back pieces and sewing your sash.

  3. Sew the lining using the burrito method. This is the magic part! You’ll get a clean finish on both neckline and armholes.

  4. Continue with the original instructions. Once your lining is in, jump ahead to Steps 8 to 10 and finish it off with Step 13 (the hemline!).

A quick fit tip:

The Brise Knit Dress has a relaxed fit in the bust, so if you’re going sleeveless and want a closer fit, now’s your chance to tweak it! When you're installing the lining, try it on and take it in at the side seams if needed. I personally removed about 2" on each side and it was super easy to do at that stage!

This little tweak is such a fun way to make the most of the Brise pattern, and stay cool while you're at it. We can’t wait to see your #CoreBrise sleeveless versions! Don’t forget to tag us on Instagram so we can cheer you on.
