This beautiful broadcloth cotton hails from Ghana, where it is custom Batik-dyed by skilled artisans in small batches. The process involves applying melted wax to the fabric in intricate patterns, followed by immersion in eco-friendly dyes. Once the dye is set, the wax is removed to reveal a stunning, crisp, and midweight fabric with a unique coffee bean motif. This motif, in its mid-scale design, is visible on both sides and adds an earthy, vibrant touch to your projects. This batik is perfect for shirts, skirts, dresses, or a stylish pair of relaxed trousers or shorts. Easy to sew with, this fabric is fully opaque and does not require a lining.

Care Instructions

Wash

Always pretreat fabric before sewing to remove chemical sizing from the manufacturing process. Pre-washing also gives you a better sense of the true drape and handfeel of a fabric. We recommend washing and drying fabric in the same way you intend to wash your finished garment. Be sure to separate brights and colours, as some dyes and prints may run the first few times you wash them. You can add half a cup to one cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle to help set the colours and minimize bleeding. It’s important to wash and dry cotton to remove any potential shrinkage down the road.

Long-Term Care

Wash this cotton by hand or machine in warm water, tumble dry on medium or hot, and do not bleach.

Fabric Tips

You can use a hot iron when pressing cotton. You can use sharp point universal needles to sew your projects. We recommend starting your project with a brand new needle.
