Eco-Friendly

Fairly and Sustainably Produced in the USA

This low-carbon footprint and pesticide-free textile is produced entirely within the USA. Our family-owned supplier sources organic cotton that is grown and ginned by the Texas Organic Growers Coop. The ginned cotton is then spun, knit and dyed within a 150 mile radius of their Asheville, North Carolina headquarters. The dyeing process uses fibre reactive dyes in a closed-loop system where the water is perpetually recycled. We’re thrilled to offer a textile that meets the highest quality and sustainability standards, while also supporting the domestic textile industry.

Care Instructions

Wash

Always pretreat fabric before sewing to remove chemical sizing from the manufacturing process. Pre-washing also gives you a better sense of the true drape and handfeel of a fabric. We recommend washing and drying fabric in the same way you intend to wash your finished garment. Be sure to separate brights and colours, as some dyes and prints may run the first few times you wash them. You can add half a cup to one cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle to help set the colours and minimize bleeding. It’s important to wash and dry cotton to remove any potential shrinkage down the road.

Fabric Tips

Use a medium iron with a pressing cloth. We recommend starting your project with a brand new ballpoint or stretch needle.

Shipping & Returns

From our studio in beautiful Montreal, Canada, we are delighted to ship to makers worldwide. Shipping is free on U.S. and Canadian orders over $150. U.S. and Canadian orders ship in 3-7 business days, and international orders take between 12-40 days. That said, all additional customs and duties that may be collected at the border are the sole responsibility of the customer.

Incorrect description of fabric at time of purchase

I was excited when I purchased this fabric, the description said the off-white was fully opaque and there was a 50% cross-grain stretch, which was required for the pattern I had picked out. Unfortunately, my project was an utter failure, as there was only 30% cross-grain stretch and zero vertical stretch. I asked support about this, and Core Fabrics confirmed they had put the wrong information in the description. I was given a 20% refund on the fabric I purchased and the description was updated, so hopefully no one else will make such a costly mistake as I did. I would also like to note that the off-white is not opaque, but quite thin and fairly see-through, and I found the recovery is quite poor. Overall a very poor experience for me, but at least the description has been updated so others get an accurate representation of what is actually being purchased. But what a bummer to have wasted my money, time, and the fabric I purchased.

Hi Rebekah,

This was one of the first fabrics on our site, and it looks as though we made an error in the listing. We are so sorry your order was affected by this, and really appreciate you bringing it to our attention so we could update it! Because the Organic Cotton Jersey Knit is 100% cotton, it is a living fabric. The knit gets softer and looser as you wear it. For good recovery in knits, a touch of synthetic fabric (such as spandex) is required. You can find this in knits like our Organic Cotton Tencel and Bamboo Jersey.

We really appreciate you helping us keep our descriptions up to date and accurate!

Nice and light

I made a Helen’s Closet Jackson T Shirt with this fabric. It’s for my husband who prefers 100 percent cotton clothing. So this was perfect. It’s nice and lightweight. A really nice blue color.

the best fabric for summer t shirts

I used this and have made at least five t shirts. It is so soft and easy to work with. I used the Core Pattern free t pattern as well as the well known Lark T. I will buy it again and again.
