Soft, velvety 14-wale organic cotton corduroy with a hint of stretch—perfect for pants, skirts, and jackets that feel effortlessly refined.

Short of velvet, few fabrics feel as luxurious as corduroy. This certified organic cotton beauty proves just that, soft, substantial, and quietly refined. With 14 narrow wales per inch, its texture is subtle yet elegant, giving garments that fine ribbed finish we can’t get enough of. Made from 98% certified organic cotton and 2% Lycra, it offers just the right amount of comfort stretch without compromising structure. At 330 gsm (9.74 oz/yd²), it has a crisp drape and velvety hand that make it an excellent bottomweight choice for pants, dungarees, skirts, structured dresses, and jackets. And while the old tale that corduroy comes from “corde du roi” cord of the king, is just a myth, you’ll still feel royally good sewing and wearing it. Fully opaque, so no lining required.

Care Instructions

Wash

Always pretreat fabric before sewing to remove chemical sizing from the manufacturing process. Pre-washing also gives you a better sense of the true drape and handfeel of a fabric. We recommend washing and drying fabric in the same way you intend to wash your finished garment. Be sure to separate brights and colours, as some dyes and prints may run the first few times you wash them. You can add half a cup to one cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle to help set the colours and minimize bleeding. It’s important to wash and dry cotton to remove any potential shrinkage down the road.

Long-Term Care

Machine wash in warm water and tumble dry on medium or hot.

Fabric Tips

You can use a hot iron when pressing cotton. You can use sharp point universal needles to sew your projects. We recommend starting your project with a brand new needle.
