We searched high and low for the ideal lightweight cotton poplin: something stable, easy to sew, and of course, sustainable. We're pleased as punch to announce our nominee for what may be the lightweight cotton of your dreams: this Oeko-Tex and BCI-certified, 100% cotton poplin. Deliciously soft with a slightly crisp drape, it has a smooth, silky hand. Perfect for all sorts of applications, you'll love sewing it up into shirts, shirtdresses, breathable pajamas, lightweight robes, loose fitting pants, and any application where you need a stable cotton - it's absolutely perfect for quilts and quilted jackets too! Fully opaque, it does not require a lining (though may be used as one!)

Care Instructions

Wash

Always pretreat fabric before sewing to remove chemical sizing from the manufacturing process. Pre-washing also gives you a better sense of the true drape and handfeel of a fabric. We recommend washing and drying fabric in the same way you intend to wash your finished garment. Be sure to separate brights and colours, as some dyes and prints may run the first few times you wash them. You can add half a cup to one cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle to help set the colours and minimize bleeding. It’s important to wash and dry cotton to remove any potential shrinkage down the road.

Long-Term Care

Machine wash in warm water and tumble dry on medium or hot.

Fabric Tips

You can use a hot iron when pressing cotton. You can use sharp point universal needles to sew your projects. We recommend starting your project with a brand new needle.

Cotton poplin in black

This is a really nice fabric with a deep black color and while I have not cut into yet I love the weight for summer. Core fabrics always impressed me! My go to fabric store!
