We're pleased as punch to announce our nominee for what may be the lightweight cotton of your dreams: this Oeko-Tex and BCI-certified, 100% cotton poplin. Deliciously soft with a slightly crisp drape, it has a smooth, silky hand. Perfect for all sorts of applications, you'll love sewing it up into shirts, shirtdresses, breathable pajamas, lightweight robes, loose fitting pants, and any application where you need a stable cotton - it's absolutely perfect for quilts and quilted jackets too! Fully opaque, it does not require a lining (though may be used as one!)

Care Instructions

Wash

Always pretreat fabric before sewing to remove chemical sizing from the manufacturing process. Pre-washing also gives you a better sense of the true drape and handfeel of a fabric. We recommend washing and drying fabric in the same way you intend to wash your finished garment. Be sure to separate brights and colours, as some dyes and prints may run the first few times you wash them. You can add half a cup to one cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle to help set the colours and minimize bleeding. It’s important to wash and dry cotton to remove any potential shrinkage down the road.

Long-Term Care

Machine wash in warm water and tumble dry on medium or hot.

Fabric Tips

You can use a hot iron when pressing cotton. You can use sharp point universal needles to sew your projects. We recommend starting your project with a brand new needle.

Luxuriant

This Lightweight Silky Poplin exudes quality. It is cool and smooth against your skin. It's easy to work with, and irons well. It worked very well for the button up shirt I used it for, but I could also see it used as a dress.

Silky Cotton Poplin

This poplin has a soft hand and is a dream to sew. I used it as a lining for an eyelet dress but as I was sewing it I was thinking it would also be perfect for a button down shirt. I’ll just have to buy more.

I am still thinking about what to use this for. I have as going to use it for pants but not sure. It is firmer then what I am use to using.
